Amazon announced Wednesday that it is investing an additional $2.75 billion in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, bringing the total amount of funding to $4 billion. To date, this is Amazon’s largest outside venture investment.
Amazon believes that this strategic agreement with Anthropic will allow customers worldwide to have access to the most advanced AI technologies. “We have a notable history with Anthropic, together helping organizations of all sizes around the world to deploy advanced generative artificial intelligence applications across their organizations,” said Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, Amazon Web Services vice president of data and AI, in a statement.
Anthropic is using Amazon Web Services as its primary cloud provider. It will also use AWS’ Titanium and Inferentia chips to build, train and deploy future AI models. The company currently has a chatbot named Claude.
Anthropic, AWS and Accenture are working together to “help organizations—especially those in highly-regulated industries including healthcare, public sector, banking, and insurance—responsibly adopt and scale generative AI solutions,” Amazon said.
