Akamai Technologies Inc. stock increased by 20% after announcing a $11.6 billion, seven-year deal with AI leader Anthropic.
The agreement will fulfill Anthropic’s CPU workload needs via Akamai Cloud’s distributed AI infrastructure and software.
According to the agreement, Akamai granted Anthropic a warrant to buy non-voting convertible Series B Preferred Stock, which equals 7.7 million shares of Akamai’s common stock on a fully converted basis, or about 5% of the company’s total outstanding common stock.
Dr. Tom Leighton, co-founder and CEO, Akamai told investors, “Anthropic is advancing the AI revolution and we are thrilled they chose Akamai’s capabilities for building and operating AI infrastructure at scale. Akamai has an unparalleled reputation for helping our customers achieve their business-critical goals and build the future. Our expanding global footprint, combined with our years of experience serving the world’s largest enterprises, positions us to be the infrastructure provider for secure and responsible AI applications and workloads.”
The contract increases Akamai’s total multi-year Cloud Infrastructure Services commitments to over $2.8 billion, as announced earlier this year.
