A new study by Upgraded Points reveals that the majority of Americans prefer window seats when flying, with 66.6 percent of surveyed passengers choosing this option. The study, which surveyed 3,100 passengers, found seat 1A, a window and bulkhead seat, to be the top choice for comfort.
Travelers also showed a clear preference for bulkhead and exit row seats, which typically cost more. Nearly 60 percent of respondents are willing to pay an average of $33.59 to select their seat in advance, with some states, like Hawaii, seeing passengers willing to pay up to $52.10.
Safety is a significant consideration for travelers, with 41 percent thinking about the safest place on the aircraft and 66 percent believing the middle of the plane is the least turbulent and safest. Delta Air Lines was chosen by 33.6 percent of respondents for having the most comfortable seats, while Spirit Airlines and Sun Country Airlines were rated the least desirable.
