According to a new report from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, global nations need to “rapidly accelerate action” on reducing emissions in order to limit climate change.
Scientists say that if the earth warms 1.5 degrees Celsius, the rising sea level has the potential to threaten coastal cities and cause major meteorological shifts.
With this in mind, the UN warned that global nations need to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030 and 60% by 2035.
“We already know the world is failing to meet its climate goals, but leaders now have a concrete blueprint underpinned by a mountain of evidence for how to get the job done,” said World Resources Institute President Ani Dasgupta.
