OpenAI fired its CEO, Sam Altman, from his leadership position at the company Friday because he was purportedly “not candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities.”
“The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI,” the company said in a statement.
OpenAI CTO Mira Murati was subsequently announced as the company’s interim CEO.
However, the OpenAI board seemed to walk back its decision Saturday as reports came out that the company was reconsidering Altman’s axing and had asked the former exec to return as CEO.
