Technology giant Amazon is laying off hundreds of employees across MGM Studios and its Prime Video division, the company announced Wednesday.
The news comes shortly after Amazon-owned streaming platform Twitch announced its own layoffs of 500 staffers.
“We’ve identified opportunities to reduce or discontinue investments in certain areas while increasing our investment and focus on content and product initiatives that deliver the most impact,” said MGM Studios and Prime Video Senior Vice President Mike Hopkins in an internal company memo. “As a result of these decisions, we will be eliminating several hundred roles across the Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios organization.”
Amazon has slashed more than 27,000 jobs across the company’s assets since the end of 2022.
