According to new data from U.S. mortgage giant Freddie Mac, the U.S. mortgage rate increased slightly during the week ending Jan. 4.
The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rate stood at 6.62% this week, up from 6.61% the week prior.
This marks the first rise in mortgage rates in nine weeks.
Despite the increase, January’s slight uptick in the average mortgage rate is still a significant decrease from the 23-year high rate of 7.79% at the end of October 2023.
