After weeks of anticipation, visual effects workers for superhero movie powerhouse Marvel Studios unanimously voted to unionize Tuesday.
“Today, VFX workers at Marvel Studios spoke with a unanimous, collective voice, demanding fair pay for the hours they work, healthcare, a safe and sustainable working environment, and respect for the work they do,” said International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees VFX Organizer Mark Patch.
Historically, VFX workers have not been represented by labor unions, a standard that’s now shifting amid nationwide labor unrest.
Disney’s VFX workers are also expected to vote on unionizing in the near future, said the IATSE.
