According to a new report from the Highway Loss Data Institute, thefts of vehicles made by major auto manufacturers Hyundai and Kia have surged more than 1000% since the year 2020.

The data alleges that 11.2 out of every 1,000 insured Kia and Hyundai vehicles were reported stolen during the first half of 2023.

This marks a significant increase from the 1.6 out of every 1,000 insured vehicles that were reported stolen during the first half of 2020.

The Kia and Hyundai theft increase came following a series of viral social media posts explaining how to simply break into the cars in question using a USB plug.
