The Federal Trade Commission is launching inquiries into large generative AI deals from Alphabet, Amazon, Anthropic, Microsoft and OpenAI.
The companies have 45 days to provide information on their investments and partnerships to help the FTC understand the impact on the industry.
Specifically, the commission seeks information related to three multi-billion-dollar deals, including an extended partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, a strategic collaboration between Amazon and Anthropic, and an expanded partnership between Google and Anthropic.
“History shows that new technologies can create new markets and healthy competition,” said FTC chair Lina Khan. “As companies race to develop and monetize AI, we must guard against tactics that foreclose this opportunity.”
