The European Space Agency launched its Euclid telescope last week on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with a mission to record billions of galaxies and to chart the history of our universe as far back as 10 billion years ago.
Over the course of the next six years, the space telescope will record more than a third of the extragalactic sky, creating the most accurate three-dimensional map of the cosmos to date.
Euclid’s map will be used to explore dark matter and dark energy — mysterious materials that make up 95 percent of the universe.
NASA hopes Euclid will answer questions that are just now emerging.
