Pop culture-inspired travel, such as traveling to attend a concert or see the filming location of a movie, is expected to double this year, according to TripIt.
The trend is more pronounced among younger travelers. Forty-one percent of Gen Z’ers and 32 percent of Millennials took a pop culture-related trip in 2023, compared with 17 percent of Gen X’ers and seven percent of Baby Boomers. However, all groups reported increasing numbers of people who plan to take such a trip in the coming year.
Concerts and music festivals are the most common reason for pop-culture related trips, accounting for 66 percent. Fifty-six percent of survey respondents said they plan to travel to a music event soon.
Other frequent drivers of pop-culture inspired trips include sporting events (43 percent); sites from books, movies and TV shows (28 percent); and viral social media spots (16 percent).
