A data breach at AT&T has resulted in more than 70 million current and former customers’ private information being leaked to the dark web. AT&T said in a press release that the data breach happened around two weeks ago, but it hasn’t yet had a “material impact” on the company’s operations.
The accounts of 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former customers were impacted. The compromised data includes full names, email and mailing addresses, social security numbers, phone numbers, data of birth and AT&T account numbers of passwords. However, the data divulged differs from person to person.
“Based on our preliminary analysis, the data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier,” AT&T said in a statement. “Currently, AT&T does not have evidence of unauthorized access to its systems resulting in theft of the data set.”
AT&T said it is contacting all customers and has reset the password to current customers’ accounts. The company will also provide free identity theft and credit monitoring services to all of those impacted.
