According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the onset of El Niño could bring more extreme weather events to the United States before the end of 2023.
Depending on the strength of the meteorological phenomenon, NASA says that the United States could face an increase of flooding this winter.
The United States has already faced 25 extreme weather events during 2023 that reportedly caused more than $1 billion in damages each.
Additional data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration revealed that 2023’s 25 extreme weather events are the most experienced in any year since records began being kept in 1980.
