Ready to shirk the environmental inefficiencies of the present-day home building industry, Moroccan startup Eco-dôme Maroc is aiming to take modern housing back toward eco-friendly traditions.
Rather than use concrete or other common building materials, Eco-dôme Maroc uses local soil and a “a very rich tradition of earthen construction” during the construction of its environmentally-conscious homes.
“We simply took this existing know-how and adjusted it to modern technologies to come up with a concept that is eco-friendly, cost effective and very rapid to implement,” company founder Youness Ouazri told CNBC.
Beyond being climate efficient, Ouazri says that Eco-dôme Maroc’s soil-based domes run at a third of the cost of a home built with standard materials.
