The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is anticipating an “above-normal level” of hurricane activity in the Atlantic ocean this year.
The agency is currently predicting between 14 to 21 storms, consisting of both hurricanes and tropical storms, during the Atlantic’s 2023 hurricane season.
This is up from the 12 to 17 seasonal storms the NOAA estimated back in May.
The increase in expected activity from May to August is mainly due to the rise in the Atlantic Ocean’s temperatures over the course of the summer.
