As of Monday, U.S. airline Southwest has cut more than 700 flights from its timetable as bad weather continues to sweep across the United States.
The new slashes represent approximately 18% of Southwest’s flight schedule.
According to Southwest, the scheduling changes come as the airline tries “to anticipate forecasted operating conditions across a wide swath of our route map – everything from wintry precipitation including blizzard conditions, to airfield and airspace constraints, and dangerous wind chill environments that require rotating ground crews to limit exposure.”
A Southwest spokesperson indicated that it expects its schedule to get back on track Tuesday once the ongoing weather begins to ease up.
